Olecranon Bursitis

Common overuse or repetitive stress injury. More common in men between 30 and 60 years old. Affects the bursa sac is located between skin and ulna. People with repetitive jobs tend to be more susceptible to injuries. Two kinds, repetitive stress and septic. Repetitive stress is described above. Septic bursitis is secondary to and infection and is much less common.

Clinical presentation
• Goose egg swelling at tip of ulna
• Tenderness to palpation
• May or may not have an abrasion or ecchymosis depending on if trauma was involved
• ROM may be affected at EROM of secondary to pain
Treatment
• RICE
• NSAIDS
• Passive stretching
• Strengthening
• Injection
• Surgery to remove bursa (rare)
