Appropriate for patients with restricted quadriceps and hip flexors.  Should be applied for general low back pain and later stages of recovery for disc injuries, stenosis, and arthritic changes.

  1. Lie on stomach
  2. Place foot in loop
  3. Use tendon in strap to slowly pull knee into a flexed position

How it works:  Exercise designed to lengthen quadricep muscle or hip flexors. Tight hip flexors can lead to increase curve in the low back in standing, and increase pain when transitioning from sit to stand after sitting for long periods.

REPS:  2-4 reps. 20-30 second holds, 2-3 times per day

Typical Symptom Response:

  • Positive:  Increase flexibility, no change in symptoms in the low back or low extremity
  • Negative: Increase muscle spasm in low back, buttocks, hamstring, or hip.  Increase pain in low back, in the buttocks or the lower extremity
