Appropriate for patients with general low back pain with decreased core and spine strength or in later recovery stages of disc injury and arthritic changes.
How it works: The plank is a traditional strengthening exercise designed to fire the transverse abdominal, multifidus, obliques, and rectus abdominals. It requires large forces and works the entire core allowing a rigidity and “bracing” to occur through the spine.
REPS: 30-60 seconds in each direction, 1-3 reps, 1-3 times a day
